Prospective Birmingham City owner Laurence Bassini delivered a quite extraordinary interview on talkSPORT last week.

Bassini joined Jim White, Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy live on the show to deliver what he called ‘massive news’ in regards to the future of Blues and in 15 minutes - failed to really say anything of the sort.

The former Watford chairman claimed that he is still very much the front-runner to be the new owner of Birmingham City and that he hopes to have full charge of the club within the next week or two. He also made the incredible claim that he’s ‘going to win the league’ during his time at St Andrew’s and will stay there for as long as it takes.

The interview became heated when Bassini accused Jordan and those on talkSPORT of mocking him. Following the interview, Jordan said on his show yesterday (11 July) that he hopes Bassini doesn’t takeover.

He said: “He says contemptible things, and whatever I may or may not think about in the past in regards to Birmingham City Football Club in the past - I don’t have any agenda against them.

“Every football fan that supports their club deserves better than to have somebody come on to a radio show and to talk the kind of nonsense that Laurence Bassini spoke of.

“It’s nonsense I don’t think he even believes it himself, but we have to have the tradgedy of his nonsense for 15 minutes of our lives which we’ll never get back, we put him in the picture about what we think of him, and I really do hope for the betterment of Birmingham City that there isn’t some sort of fisher that opens up that he can crawl in between and take someone’s money and use it to fund Birmingham with.”

What else did Bassini say during the talkSPORT interview?

When asked how close he was to buying Blues, Bassini said: “I’ve sent 30 million pounds to the lawyer who has sent it directly to the owners of Birmingham City.

“I’m also going to put 70 to 80 to 100 million [more into the club].

“I’m going to show you all, I’m going to show all you lot, I’m going to win the league.

“I’m going to [buy the club for] 35 to 40 million. I’m going to clear the debts that are there and I’m going to straighten things out.

“Keith Harris can’t be on the board because he’s a dishonest man.

“I would like to be there [in the club] in the next week or two getting things sorted.

“The reason for the delay is I’ve got to change chairman and I’m not going to stay there for three years like I said initially, I’m going to stay there for as long as it takes.”
