Former Birmingham City striker Lyle Taylor is no longer training with Sheffield Wednesday, reports The Star.

A report from sister website The Star claims that the Owls have not yet made a decision on whether they will sign the former Blues striker. He has stopped training with the rock-bottom Championship club however, and now faces an anxious wait over his future.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest this summer, and over the last few weeks had been training with Wednesday amid talks of a possible move.

Dejphon Chansiri's damning statement last Friday, where he told that he 'will not put additional money into the club' has cast doubt however as to whether a move for Taylor would be funded.

"No, he is not training with us, and we need to think about the situation,” explained Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz. "We will see what happens. We need to find exactly what we want.

"I know he is a very good player but we will see what happens in the next few days. We will then make a decision. We have a big problem thinking how we can improve the team in the short term, not just two, three or four weeks."

Despite being without a club, he scored last month whilst on international duty for Monterssat, where he was managed by former Birmingham City midfielder-turned-manager Lee Bowyer.

A banner was unveiled outside of St Andrew's last month calling for Birmingham City to re-sign the forward. it read 'Craig listen to the fans. Bring him home.' and had a photo of Taylor celebrating. It was removed before fans made their way to attend the goalless draw with Queens Park Rangers.

Former England international Carlton Palmer urged John Eustace to sign the striker claiming it was a ‘win-win’ situation. Taylor scored five goals in 14 games after joining them on loan in the 2021/22 season.
