The £88m man has come a long way in a short space of time since his Blues debut in 2019 and he fired in a last minute winner on his Champions League debut at the Bernabeu as Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Union Berlin.

Bellingham has been viewed as a huge midfield talent since his breakthrough season at just 16 years of age and he played a huge role in keeping Birmingham away from the drop in the 2019/20 campaign. In fact his role was so huge that the club even made the decision to retire his number 22 shirt when he departed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020.

At that stage, Bellingham was viewed as a box to box midfielder who could dictate the game in the central areas. But he was not renowned for scoring goals and he finished his debut campaign in the West Midlands with four in 41 appearances.

This was a similar theme at Borussia Dortmund where he scored a combined 12 league goals in 92 Bundesliga appearances.

However, he is quickly earning the reputation of being a goalscoring midfielder in the Spanish capital and he has scored in five of his first six competitive games for the club.

Bellingham is quickly filling the void left by Karim Benzema and he is the top scorer in the whole of La Liga after five league games and is ahead of Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski.

Bellingham fired home a goal on his debut in a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao, he followed that up with a match-winning double in a 3-1 away win at Almeria.

The ex-Birmingham man scored the winner in a third away victory against Celta Vigo and bagged a last-gasp winner on his home debut in a 2-1 win against Getafe.

Bellingham’s Champions League strike against Union Berlin takes him to six goals in all competitions making him Real Madrid’s top scorer so far ahead of fellow new signing Joselu, who has two goals.

The goal takes his overall Champions League tally to seven across three seasons in the competition and he also scored two in the Europa League during the 2020/21 campaign.

At just 20-years of age Bellingham will hope to catch the all-time leading English goal scorer in the competition Wayne Rooney with 34. But he is a long way off the tally of 141 that Cristiano Ronaldo boasts in the tournament.
