Birmingham City look set to reunite with Gary Rowett who is being proposed to take over as interim manager until the end of the season.

Tony Mowbray has afforded period of absence as he recovers from an illness. Blues who are outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference have now changed their approach and will look to bring in the 50-year-old to fulfil managerial duties and help preserve their Championship status.

Rowett's proposed return to the St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park will see him rekindle an association with the club that ended in 2016. He was controversially relieved of his duties and replaced by Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola who had a far from successful time in charge.

The 50-year-old had Birmingham in seventh when he was relieved of his duties and it was a decision that shocked many. His final game in charge ended up being a 2-1 win over Ipswich Town on December 13, 2016.

Clayton Donaldson and Michael Morrison netted for Birmingham that day. With Rowett's return offering the opportunity to look back, we take a look at the last Birmingham City team that Rowett named before his sacking.

Tomasz Kuszczak

He reportedly began a construction company and graduated university with a sports journalism qualification. Kuszczak was appointed the goalkeeping coach of the Poland national team in September 2023, but that came to an end on Monday, March 18, 2024.
