The Blues are preparing for life in the Championship following their promotion from League One. Chris Davies’ side are carrying some serious momentum after smashing the record points tally in the third tier. They went up in the end along with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic and will want to show what they are all about in the second tier.

Update on Birmingham City target Mikey Moore

Birmingham have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur prodigy Mikey Moore in this window along with West Brom. The 17-year-old is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He has already made 21 first-team appearances for his current club to date and has chipped in with one goal.

In this latest update regarding his situation, journalist Matt Law has claimed on X that Rangers are now favourites for his signature. The reporter has posted on social media: “Rangers have emerged as favourites to sign Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham. There's been a lot of interest, particularly from the Championship, but Rangers seen as most likely destination.”

Moore, who is from London, has risen up through the academy ranks at Spurs. He has been a regular for them at various different youth levels in the past. The attacking midfielder will want to become a key senior player at the Tottenham Hotspur down the line.

What now for Birmingham City target Mikey Moore?

Moore would benefit from a loan spell away from Spurs. He could do with getting some experience under his belt. Birmingham may need to start looking elsewhere for players in his position with it looking like Rangers are now in pole position for his services.

The Gers finished 2nd in the Scottish Premiership table last term behind bitter rivals Celtic again. They have brought in Russell Martin as their permanent replacement for Philippe Clement following ex-Blues man Barry Ferguson’s interim spell in the dugout at Ibrox. Martin has delved into the market to bring in the likes of Joe Rothwell, Max Aarons and Thelo Aasgaard to strengthen his newly inherited squad, among others.

Martin has managed MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton and plays a possession-based style of football. If he joins, Moore will give his team something different going forward. As with anyone of his tender age, patience may be required whilst he gets to grips with life in Glasgow.

Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had this to say about Moore last year: “It’s fair to say it’s incredible that he’s turning 17. We brought him into the first-team environment at the back end of last year. Every time he’s played for the under-18s or under-21s, he’s had an impact. For a very young guy, he adjusted really quickly [to the first team]. He’s come back pre-season and done really well in the games and in training. It’s great for this football club that he’s come through our academy and is already showing great promise.”
