'High ambitions' - Birmingham City owner gives tantalising hint at summer transfer window plans
Birmingham City have the chance to bring in some new players this summer
Birmingham City have already wrapped up the League One title after an impressive season. They didn’t win the Vertu Trophy though and were beaten 2-0 by Peterborough United at Wembley last Sunday. The Blues weren’t able to play to their best against the Posh and slumped to a disappointing loss.

Nevertheless, the Midlands club have enjoyed a successful campaign and will be looking forward to the future. Chris Davies was picked as their manager last summer and has worked well. He has the chance to sign some players when the next transfer window opens for business.
Birmingham City transfer plans ahead of the summer
Birmingham owner Tom Wagner has hinted that they will be busy again on the transfer front following their return to the Championship. It has been well documented that they spent big last year following their relegation to the third tier. They have the opportunity to splash the cash more again this time around as they ultimately eye promotion to the Premier League.
On whether they could break their transfer record again this year, Wagner has said, as per Birmingham Live: “If we have the headroom, we’ll do it. We’ll see. I think at the end of the day, a lot of it is thinking about what do we spend this year versus what we spend in future years? Where’s the talent? What’s the price? Where’s the value?
“All of those are questions that can’t be answered until the window opens, but you know we do have high ambitions and at the same time we will be seeking great value. I think we did an exceptional job with that last summer and I think we’ll do a very good job with it this summer.”
Who has been linked with Birmingham City?
Birmingham City have already been linked with some players as they gear up for the next campaign. As per EFL Analysis, Peterborough winger Kwame Poku has emerged as a potential target. However, other teams like Crystal Palace, Luton Town, Millwall, Norwich City and Rangers have also been mentioned as suitors.
Swansea City defender Harry Darling is on their radar, according to Wales Online. He was tipped for a switch back in January but nothing materialised. His contract expires in late June and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension meaning he is due to become available as a free agent.
Loanee Ben Davies has said he will consider a permanent move. He is due to return to Rangers when his temporary deal expires and his future at Ibrox is up in the air. The former Preston North End and Liverpool man has said: “I came on loan to play a lot of games and hopefully help Birmingham back up and have a good season. I’m happy with how it’s going here but I’ll think about that and consider all my options in the summer.
“I’m going to work here till the summer then see what my agent says. I’m really enjoying it here so if the opportunity arose I’d consider it seriously. But it’s not really my decision at the minute so I’m going to wait and then see what’s happening.”
