Birmingham City have got off to a superb start to the 2023/24 season, earning an EFL Championship top-six spot after 11 fixtures. Things have been shaken up despite the promising results, however, with head coach John Eustace out of the door and Wayne Rooney a new face in the dugout.
There were a total of 12 signings in the summer transfer window –with £6 million spent – to give the club a proper overhaul under new ownership. Some of the fresh additions have made better impressions than others. The same can be said with the rest of the squad, with the congested fixture schedule pushing players to the limits.
With the October international break giving fans and the media alike time to reflect on the start of the season, we’ve sat down and rated individual players out of 10. Click through the pages for a brief analysis of the 28 individual Birmingham men to have featured so far this campaign.

21. Oliver Burke - 5
Doesn’t look at all sharp from first impressions and has a lot to do to begin starting matches. There’s definitely talent in there – and there have been small glimpses of that – but more effort is needed. | Getty Images

22. Siriki Dembele - 8
Such an exciting player to watch and has done well to score three goals in just 444 minutes. Struggled at AFC Bournemouth but appears to have gained confidence at St Andrew’s. | Getty Images

23. Keshi Anderson - 7
Still without a goal but was a strong performer before his injury, working well with the likes of Miyoshi and Dembele to create opportunities. Just needs to get on the scoresheet for his rating to be boosted. | Getty Images

24. Tyler Roberts - 6
Yet to have much of an impact since signing but will be hoping to get going properly under Rooney once he’s back to full fitness. | Getty Images
