Birmingham City have got off to a superb start to the 2023/24 season, earning an EFL Championship top-six spot after 11 fixtures. Things have been shaken up despite the promising results, however, with head coach John Eustace out of the door and Wayne Rooney a new face in the dugout.
There were a total of 12 signings in the summer transfer window –with £6 million spent – to give the club a proper overhaul under new ownership. Some of the fresh additions have made better impressions than others. The same can be said with the rest of the squad, with the congested fixture schedule pushing players to the limits.
With the October international break giving fans and the media alike time to reflect on the start of the season, we’ve sat down and rated individual players out of 10. Click through the pages for a brief analysis of the 28 individual Birmingham men to have featured so far this campaign.

25. Scott Hogan - 5
Scored a couple of goals early on in the season but has failed to build any momentum and is at great risk of being a regular on the substitutes’ bench. Works hard to press defences but hasn’t been clinical enough in front of goal. | Getty Images

26. Jay Stansfield - 8
Quite often runs the show for Blues and has the potential to be the star man this season if he can build on his exciting form. Scored a cracker of a goal on his debut against Plymouth Argyle and has netted twice since. | Getty Images

27. Sam Cosgrove - 5
Didn’t look at a high enough level on his two brief showings and was allowed to leave for Barnsley on a free transfer. | Getty Images

28. Lukas Jutkiewicz - 7
Two goals and one assist in just 220 appearances shows Jukey has still got it. The club legend won’t play too often but is a safe bet whenever Blues need an aerial presence up top. | Getty Images
