Birmingham City have got off to a superb start to the 2023/24 season, earning an EFL Championship top-six spot after 11 fixtures. Things have been shaken up despite the promising results, however, with head coach John Eustace out of the door and Wayne Rooney a new face in the dugout.
There were a total of 12 signings in the summer transfer window –with £6 million spent – to give the club a proper overhaul under new ownership. Some of the fresh additions have made better impressions than others. The same can be said with the rest of the squad, with the congested fixture schedule pushing players to the limits.
With the October international break giving fans and the media alike time to reflect on the start of the season, we’ve sat down and rated individual players out of 10. Click through the pages for a brief analysis of the 28 individual Birmingham men to have featured so far this campaign.

17. Jordan James - 6
Another who has seen most minutes off the bench, James has shown strong work ethic and versatility. Still a little way down the order to start consistently but isn’t too far away. | Getty Images

18. George Hall - 6
Suffering from plenty of injuries early on in his career and needs to be edged in slowly before he can make a proper mark. | Getty Images

19. Juninho Bacuna - 8
With three goals and an assist in 13 appearances, the Curacao international is certainly upping his attacking threat. Bacuna, who provides plenty of energy in midfield, has been named the man of the match twice so far this term. | Getty Images

20. Koji Miyoshi - 8
Lifting fans off their seats with his silky skills, the Japan international has pace, flair and agility in abundance. Just the two goals so far but has taken on more of a creative role to feed the likes of Stansfield and Hogan. | Getty Images
