Diego Carlos has delivered his first interview since joining Aston Villa from La Liga giants Sevilla and it’s instantly recognisable why he was a big target of Steven Gerrard’s.

Despite him not yet being able to speak English, the Brazilian defender was able to say all the right things, delivering a number of exciting comments throughout his 2:22 sit down.

Speaking to VillaTV, Carlos explained how much he had enjoyed his first day at Bodymoor Heath.

“Well the first day was very good, a surprise,” Carlos said.

“I was surprised by the training ground, everything was really nice. I was also very well received by all the players and the people who work here.

“I’m really happy and thank you to everyone for being so welcoming.

“I’ve tried my best to communicate but it’s been difficult but I’ll get there, little by little.”

The 29-year-old came across a humble character - something that seems to be a common theme with all of Gerrard’s signings to date.

All ooze quality on the field but none are show ponies or show negative attributes in the little we have seen of them off of it.

These are players that want to come in and fight for the club, the badge - and there’s not much more you can ask of your players than that.

Carlos went on to add how impressed he was with the facilities the claret and blue have at their disposal before delivering an “all in” message that Villa fans will love.

“Well the facilities, the truth is from when I first walked through the door I noticed the training ground, they were great, very good pitches,” he added.

“Very good facilities and everything inside was really nice and I’m really happy to be involved with this team.

“I’m very excited about pre-season. The pre-season starts for me now that I’ve set foot on the club grounds.

“From now, this season has already started and I’m really happy with my first day training and bit by bit we’ll start adapting and we have the pre-season training in Australia.

“My goals and aims are the same as the club’s. What the club wants is what I want. I’m here to be able to add something to the team and be able to proceed so their goals and aims will always be mine too.”
