Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has entered into ‘fresh talks’ over a new deal at Anfield amid rumours that his future may lie elsewhere.

That’s according to Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports News who claims a contract renewal is among the top priorities for both Jurgen Klopp and Reds’ sporting director Julian Ward.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Gomez ever since Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Villa Park, however, Dorsett claims that there has been no approach from the claret and blue - or anyone else for that matter as of yet.

This backs up what BirminghamWorld were told just last week in regards to the signing of a new centre-half at Villa.

We reported that the claret and blue are not looking to add to their central defensive options following the arrival of Diego Carlos.

It was stated by some last week that Villa were looking to rival Chelsea for Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, however, this is said to be a complete ‘non-starter’ and a move for Gomez, Ake or any other central defender at this point is highly unlikely.
