Luis Suarez is reportedly keen on a move back to the Premier League, wanting to join Aston Villa when his contract at Atletico Madrid expires.

If he joins Villa, he will follow former Barcelona and Liverpoole team-mate Phillipe Coutinho, who joined Villa last week, on an initial loan from the Catalonians.

It’s reported Suarez is keen to also link up with previous Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard, who was appointed manager of the Midlands club in November, replacing Dean Smith who is now at Norwich.

Gerrard has wasted no time in using the good resources available at Villa, as well as signing Coutinho on loan, he also signed Lucas Digne from his former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who was sacked just days later.

And amid the rumours of Suarez’ future, Diego Simeone has now responded.

According to The Mirror, when Suarez was hooked at Sevilla, he walked off shouting “Fu***** idiot, always the same” - which is believed to be a direct shot at the Argentine manager.

At the time of the outburst, Simeone, who has been at the helm of Madrid and completely transformed the club, insisted there was ‘nothing to say’ at the time, but he has now spoken out.

Suarez is currently on a fairly long goal drought, and has found the next just once in his last 12 games for both club and country, and Simeone said: “We have spoken with Luis for two months about what I think of him, of how important he is for us and the situations that we create for him and without him on the pitch.

“What I think of him, he knows it and I didn’t speak to him after Sevilla, I have spoken to him for two months.”

This comes after increasing uncertainty that Suarez will be at the Wanda Metropolitano next year, after rumours that he would head to America and compete in the MLS, before the Villa links emerged.
