Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has been linked with a shock move for former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez.

The duo formed a formidable partnership during their time together at Anfield and Gerrard is now keen to make the Uruguayan striker his third signing of the transfer window.

The Aston Villa boss has already reunited with another of his former Liverpool team-mates when he secured a loan move for Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho last week.

That was followed up by the £25million addition of Everton left-back Lucas Digne and Villa are believed to be working hard to further add to Gerrard’s squad before the end of the month.Summer move for Suarez?

Suarez has nine goals in 27 appearances for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and reports in Spain have suggested Gerrard has made a personal call to try and tempt his former team-mate back to the Premier League.

However, there are suggestions any move for Suarez could be delayed until the summer when his current contract with Atleti is set to come to an end.

West London Sport have suggested Brentford are set to beat Villa to the signing of Bologna and Scotland defender Aaron Hickey.

It was believed the former Hearts star would move to Villa Park this month - but Brentford have stolen a march in the race for his services and have opened negotiations with the Serie A club.
