Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte says the game against Aston Villa wasn’t easy like the scoreline suggests and praised the atmosphere inside Villa Park following Saturday evening’s match.

A hat-trick from Son Heung-Min and a goal from Dejan Kulusevski rounded off a huge 4-0 win for Spurs over Villa and handed the claret and blue their fourth successive defeat.

On paper, it looked like a hammering for Steven Gerrard’s men but it was far from it over the course of the 90.

In the first half especially, Villa had a number of big chances to find the back of a net but a combination of fine goalkeeping and poor finishing ultimately saw them fire a blank.

Conte was the first to acknowledge this post-match, admitting that Villa had given his side a difficult afternoon and also praised the Villans inside the stadium who created a ‘great atmosphere’ on the night.

“I’m happy for my players because we know very well the difficulty to play against Aston Villa, away especially because this stadium, there was a great atmosphere,” he said.

“I want to say thanks to our fans because despite they were in not in the same numbers as Aston Villa fans but they pushed us from the start to the end and to give them this type of satisfaction is great for us.

“We work for the club, we work to improve the players but at the same time we work to make our fans satisfied about their team.

“We have to be pleased, it wasn’t an easy game but we showed great resilience in the first half because in the first half Aston Villa tried to push a lot and to put a lot of intensity and pressure and we showed great resilience.”
