Aston Villa are unlikely to sack Steven Gerrard anytime soon, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Villans sit 14th in the Premier League after their opening eight games, winning twice, drawing the same number of matches, and losing four times.

Gerrard’s run has been an intriguing one in the West Midland since his arrival from Rangers in November.

The former Liverpool midfielder has overseen 37 games in the Villa dugout in all competitions, winning 13 of them.

Villa have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring six goals in the league - the joint-third lowest in the competition.

Pressure has been building on Gerrard after his side’s poor start to the campaign, however, Sheth doesn’t think the 42-year-old will be dismissed in the near future.

The reporter believes due to the club’s owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris pursuit of Gerrard and their backing of him this summer, the Villans will stick with their current boss.

“I can’t see a situation where Villa would sack him simply because they tried so hard in the first place to get him,” Sheth told GiveMeSport.

“They’ve put a lot of investment, not only in Steven Gerrard, but in the playing squad that Steven Gerrard wanted to bring in as well, so they have backed him in the transfer window.”

Villa spent over £60m on Philippe Coutinho, Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen and Leander Dendoncker this summer, while Boubacar Kamara joined on a free transfer.

Villa are undefeated in their last three league games going into Monday’s clash with bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest.

This fixture is arguably the biggest of the campaign so far for Gerrard and his team, with anything other than a win seen as a poor result.

However, the Villans’ boss has a selection headache ahead of the match, with Ludwig Augustinsson joining Lucas Digne and Diego Carlos on the sidelines.

Gerrard is likely to shift Ashley Young to left-back in Augustinsson and Digne’s absence, while Matty Cash could return and feature on the right side of defence.
