Aston Villa travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Monday evening, with the club looking to secure their second win in four Premier League games.

The Villans come into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw with Leeds United last Monday, a game they dominated.

Steven Gerrard’s side sit 14th in the table, while the hosts are bottom of the league, winning just one of their opening eight league games.

Monday is arguably Villa’s best chance to earn a victory this season, with several players in line for a return.

However, Ludwig Augustinsson won’t be available in the near future after suffering a hamstring injury against Leeds.

“Matty Cash is back in full training and he’s available for Nottingham Forest,” Gerrard said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“Calum Chambers has done half of the session today and he’ll continue to pick training up from now until Monday. He’s got a decent chance to be involved.

“Ludwig Augustinsson will be out for around three weeks – he’s got a hamstring injury on the back of the Leeds game.

“We’ve also got Leon Bailey, who has got a small muscle issue. He’s a doubt for the weekend but he’s not totally ruled out.

“In terms of Lucas Digne, it’s a complicated one that’s going to rumble on for a few more weeks before we can assess it. I’ll have some news on Digne in a couple of weeks, but he won’t be available for Forest.”

Augustinsson joins Digne and Diego Carlos as those out of contention for the Villans’ boss in the near future.

With both left-backs ruled out for the trip to Forest, it’s expected Gerrard will shift Ashley Young to the left side of defence.

Gerrard believes he has seen improvements in his side’s recent performances but wants to turn them performances into wins.

“There’s been an improvement but what I will say is we need to keep striving for more improvement and better results,” he said.

“I felt as if the weekend was a missed opportunity to take maximum points – not just on the back of them going down to ten men, but on the back of the opportunities we created.

“On the overall performance, we did enough to win that game.”
