We’re just over one week from the 22/23 Premier League campaign getting underway.
Crystal Palace and Arsenal kick things off on the evening of August 5th before the main bulk of the action gets underway the following day including Wolves’ trip to Leeds United and Aston Villa’s clash away at newly promoted Bournemouth.
With the new season being so near, FiveThirtyEight have once again launched their in-depth Supercomputer which gives a detailed look at how they expect the Premier League table to look come May 2023.
Their website states that, in their system: ‘every team has an offensive rating that represents the number of goals it would be expected to score against an average team on a neutral field, and a defensive rating that represents the number of goals it would be expected to concede. These ratings, in turn, produce an overall SPI rating, which represents the percentage of available points.’
The bookmakers have already made it clear who they think is winning the league and who is facing the drop but does this more sophisticated system agree?
Here’s a look at the table in full from Champions down to rock bottom.
17. Southampton - 40 points, -21 GD
