“There’ll be big clubs out there monitoring his situation, of course, there will, but that’s all ifs and buts. I mean we can only look at what he’s doing at this moment in time and he’s been incredible.

“I think Villa are going in the right direction for him and what he wants. He probably wants to play Champions League football and things like that. He’s in a good place I think at this moment in time.”

McGinn hailed

Liverpool and Scotland legend Graeme Souness has lauded John McGinn as a “super player” ahead of the Tartan Army’s double-header against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland. The 29-year-old has become a stalwart at Villa Park and a cornerstone of Unai Emery’s success.

McGinn was named captain by Steven Gerrard and has continued to thrive with the armband under Emery. The Spaniard has added versatility to his game, regularly playing the skipper out wide.

He is vital to Scotland’s chances at Euro 2024 as they take on tournament hosts Germany, Switzerland and Hungary. Speaking to the Daily Record, former midfielder Souness hailed the Villa talisman.

“McGinn is a super player,” he said. “You certainly wouldn’t like to play against him. He can bully opponents. He is strong and powerful.”
