Ollie Watkins is touch-and-go ahead of Aston Villa's Premier League trip to West Ham United on Sunday after sustaining a gashed leg against Ajax.

Withdrawn in the 33rd minute of the 4-0 win over the Dutch giants in the UEFA Europa Conference League, Watkins was a goalscoring hero but caused heaps of concern as he walked off the field gingerly. Teammate and fellow scorer Leon Bailey even had to offer support.

Many feared the worst when Watkins remained on the ground in the 25th minute after clashing with Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. The England international received treatment for a long while before carrying on and scoring a header. His race was ran soon after, though, when Jhon Duran replaced him.

The first update on Watkins post-match came from Bailey, who of course had a good view of what happened. "It looked really bad when I saw it. It was an open wound," Bailey said. But Unai Emery had a much more optimistic outlook with a hint Watkins could play some part at London Stadium.

"We don't know exactly. He could be available for Sunday, but it is only a cut. We will wait and see tomorrow and Saturday," Emery said in the press conference. Continuing about Diego Carlos, who was also substituted with an issue, Emery said: "It's something with his hamstring. Maybe he might not be available for Sunday."
