Lee Carsley’s decision to call up one of Aston Villa’s leading young players means more money has to go out of the club.

Aston Villa will reportedly have to pay Middlesbrough more money following Morgan Rogers' call-up to the England squad.

Rogers was drafted in to Lee Carsley's Three Lions squad for their upcoming Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. There were a raft of changes with Rogers drafted in after Trent Alexander-Arnold, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Aaron Ramsdale had all dropped out. They were replaced by Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarrod Bowen, James Trafford and Tino Livramento.

Whilst it's good news for Rogers, for his club, they will have to make another payment according to The Northern Echo. Rogers' England honours has triggered a payment which will see Middlesbrough receive another sum of money, following his initial £8m move.

A series of add-ons was included in the deal to bring the 22-year-old to Villa Park, and it could eventually come to around £15m. Villa had to make a payment to Middlesbrough when they qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

With the riches that the UCL offers and the TV money that the Premier League gives to their clubs, then it’s only pocket change for Villa, and they will have been glad to have landed a player with such potential for a small fee.

Middlesbrough had only had Rogers for six months after signing him from Man City, but his form with the Boro caught the attention of Villa. His nine assists and seven goals which helped them reach the EFL Cup semi-finals saw Villa snap him up. He would go on to make 16 appearances for the remainder of the campaign for Villa, scoring three league goals, and getting an assist.

Rogers has been a key player for Unai Emery this season with three goals and three assists. In the 15 matches he's been available for he has started in all of them.
