Latest injury news ahead of the televised Premier League clash at Portman Road on Sunday, September 29 at 2.00 pm.

Aston Villa are on their travels in the Premier League as they face new boys Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday, September 29.

The Tractor Boys are yet to win in the league this campaign, but have picked up draws against Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham, and Southampton. Villa make their first visit to Suffolk in over six years, having drawn 1-1 in an EFL Championship clash back in August 2018.

Ipswich have a slight edge on Villa as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in August, whilst Villa played Wycombe Wanderers. Unai Emery did make 10 changes against the Chairboys in the 2-1 win but a few first-team players such as Lamare Bogarde and Jhon Duran played.

Aston Villa injury news

Diego Carlos was due to be in the squad against Wycombe Wanderers but felt an injury during the warm-up. He was replaced by youngster Thierry Katsukunya, and now Carlos is a doubt ahead of the weekend.

No update was offered by Unai Emery in his post-match press conference at Adams Park, but things should become clearer later this week. Carlos started his first Premier League game of the season last weekend, and his injury could force Emery to reshuffle his defence.

Matty Cash spoke of his desire to get himself fit for the UEFA Champions League tie against Bayern Munich. He’ll have to get at least some minutes under his belt this weekend to be in contention having been missing for a month with a hamstring injury.

Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings are both making positive strides towards recovering from their serious knee injuries. Both players are in full training and could come into the side in the coming weeks.

Jaden Philogene hasn’t played since the end of August after taking a knock. Lucas Digne came off at half-time at the weekend with an apparent injury issue, however, he posted a photo of him working in the gym, so he should be fine.

Out: Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings, Jaden Philogene, and John McGinn. Doubts: Diego Carlos, and Matty Cash.

Ipswich Town injury news

Nathan Broadhead picked up a hamstring injury during pre-season and was made available for selection last weekend. The 26-year-old wasn't named in the match day squad but will push to be a part of proceedings this week.

Broadhead was slightly ahead of Harry Clarke in terms of who would return sooner, but he has been training. Ipswich believe they have enough options at right-back to not rush Clarke back too quickly.

A thigh injury forced Kalvin Phillips to miss the trip to St Mary’s last week. The on-loan Man City midfielder had played the previous two games, but a ‘small’ injury in his thigh muscle sustained in training prevented him from playing against the Saints.

Doubt: Kalvin Phillips, Nathan Broadhead, and Harry Clarke.
