Patients warned to 'double check' common blood pressure medication due to packaging error

Patients are being asked to double check their medications.

A common blood pressure medication, prescribed to hundreds-of-thousands of Brits, has been recalled due to a packaging error.

A batch of Lercanidipine Hydrochloride 10mg tablets, a medication which is used to treat high blood pressure or hypertension by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, has been recalled due to the wrong strength being stated on the packaging.

A complaint received by the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said a box contained one strip of the correct tablets and one strip of 20mg tablets - which risks an “exaggerated pharacological effect” to patients taking the incorrect dose.

Accord-UK Ltd have since issued a recall on the medication on a pharmacy and wholesale level as the risk to patients is low.

However, patients who have been prescribed Lercanidipine Hydrochloride 10mg, and received a pack with the batch number M2510877, have been asked to carefully check the blister strips inside.
