FA Cup prize money: How much Aston Villa and Wolves can earn if they make it to the quarter-final and beyond

Aston Villa and Wolves are both aiming to secure their place in the FA Cup quarter-final draw

Aston Villa and Wolves could be set for a lucrative financial boost if they are able to progress in their respective round-of-16 FA Cup matches.

Unai Emery’s side play host to relegation-threatened Championship side Cardiff City and head into the fixture with a point to prove as they look to bury the demons of a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Friday night fixture comes just days before Villa’s trip to Belgium to face Club Brugge in the Champions League, but still offers the West Midlands side a valuable opportunity to take a step closer to silverware and potentially end the club’s 29-year-wait for a major honour.

Elsewhere, Wolves, who are in a deep battle to survive in the top-flight, will be targeting yet another upset against high-flying Bournemouth. The Old Gold recorded a 1-0 victory in the league at the Vitality Stadium thanks to the heroics of Matheus Cunha and will once again be aiming to nullify the threat of Andoni Iraola’s side.

Both Aston Villa and Wolves will have their eyes on ending their long wait for silverware. The Villans last lifted the FA Cup in 1957 while the Molineux faithful have to go back to 1960. The competition also offers both teams a valuable cash incentive which is particularly crucial in the modern game with the pressures of Profit and Sustainability rules and Financial Fair Play.

How much do teams earn for progressing to the FA Cup quarter-final?

Aston Villa and Wolves have the opportunity to earn a cash prize of £225,000 if they progress to the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

The FA official website shows that both The Lions and The Old Gold have already made £115,000 and £120,000 in earnings from progressing from the third and fourth round to the last 16 of the competition. Villa have beaten the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United to clinch their place in the fifth round while Wolves have beaten Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers in the early stages of the tournament.
