Early team news for Brentford vs Aston Villa, including updates on Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara, Philippe Coutinho and five other players.

Aston Villa are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon for an away trip to an out-of-sorts Brentford side. Having won seven of their last eight and drawing the other, Villa will be eager to continue their momentum to boost their hopes of finishing in the top six.

The Bees, meanwhile, have suffered three defeats in a row, including a disappointing 2-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday. In contrast, Unai Emery’s side were 3-0 victors against Newcastle United in their latest outing.

On the injury news front it’s largely bad news for the Villans as they are still awaiting the returns of some key first-team players. Leon Bailey remains absent with the injury he picked up in the win over Nottingham Forest, whereas Matty Cash is still recovering from the hamstring strain from the international break.

Philippe Coutinho has been sidelined for a couple of months with a similar issue and is still on the treatment table – as is Boubacar Kamara, who has been working hard to recover from an ankle problem. Jed Steer remains sidelined with the Achilles injury picked up on loan at Luton Town last season.

For Brentford, there are still a few players missing ahead of this weekend. Centre back Pontus Jansson will be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, whereas winger Keane Lewis-Potter (knee) could be back for the final couple of games. Defender Kristoffer Ajer (calf) is likely to return at the start of May.

Ruled out: Jansson, Lewis-Potter, Ajer (BRE); Bailey, Steer, Cash, Coutinho, Kamara (AVL).
