Prediction sees new twist in Europe race - including Aston Villa, Brighton, Liverpool and Newcastle United - gallery

The latest data prediction sees the Premier League fight for Europe finale – as Aston Villa, Brighton, Liverpool and Newcastle United battle.

Aston Villa took a huge step towards a potential European spot with a dominant 3-0 victory over top-four side Newcastle United on Saturday. Unai Emery’s side closed the gap as they made it seven wins in their last eight Premier League outings, adding further excitement to an already intense battle.

It’s been a riveting watch for neutrals but anxiety-provoking for fans supporting the clubs involved. Just nine points separate fourth and eighth with under 10 games to go, though some teams have more matches to play than others.

As it stands, Arsenal (74 points) and Manchester City (70) are running away with the top two places but Manchester United (59) and Newcastle (56) aren’t quite out of reach just yet. Tottenham Hotspur (53), Villa (50), Brighton & Hove Albion (49) and Liverpool (47) are all in close pursuit.

There’s also an incredibly exciting relegation battle unfolding, with just seven points between 13th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers (34) and Nottingham Forest (27), who are in 18th. Meanwhile, Leicester City (25) and Southampton (23) are still in with a chance of staying up if they can pull themselves together.

But who is looking the likeliest to finish in the top seven, six and four in the Premier League as it stands? And which clubs are set to survive the grasp of the bottom three at the foot of the table?

From first place all the way through to 20th, here is an updated look at the final predicted standings from simulations run by FiveThirtyEight.
