Latest Aston Villa transfer news as reports in Italy make a claim about a return of a popular former loanee.

Tammy Abraham would have 'ended up' an Aston Villa player this summer had it not been for his injury according to reports in Italy.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined for the last eight months having suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL). Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claimed that had he not got injured on the final day of last season, he'd be a Villa player.

Abraham could still return to England this summer according to the report who claim that Abraham could be used as a transfer makeweight in a possible exchange to keep Romelu Lukaku at the Stadio Olimpico. Throughout the summer, Abraham was linked with a return to Villa Park, but now his future might be up in the air.

He is remembered fondly for his role in helping get Villa back in to the Premier League. He scored 26 goals in 40 matches as the Villains won the Championship play-off final in 2019. He returned to Stamford Bridge the following season and reached double figures under Frank Lampard's guidance.

Abraham left England for Italy in August 2021, where he would work alongside former Chelsea, Spurs and Man United boss Jose Mourinho at Roma, joining for a reported £34m with a £68m buy-back clause. The 11-cap England international netted 27 goals in his first season in Italy and won the Europa Conference League.

In other news, former Aston Villa goalkeeper Viktor Johansson will be available for a seven-figure fee in the summer. Johansson currently plays for Rotherham United in the EFL Championship and they are destined to be relegated to League One with just three wins in 38 matches.

If the Millers are relegated which is likely given they are 19 points adrift of safety then they could lose Johnasson. Our friends at the Rotherham Advertiser have revealed that there is a seven-figure release clause that will come in to action if they are relegated which seems the most likely outcome. It would mean a smaller fee for them than they could have got had they cashed in on him in the winter transfer window.

Leeds United and Sheffield United have been listed as admirers over the last 12 months but there is interest across Europe as well. Johansson is a one-time Sweden international having made his debut in 2023. He began his senior career at Aston Villa after joining the youth setup in 2015, but left in 2018 having failed to make an appearance.
