Aston Villa have been boosted by the imminent return of an important player.

Ezri Konsa is reportedly set to be available to play in ‘one or two weeks’ following his hamstring injury scare against Manchester United on Sunday.

The versatile defender was forced off just 12 minutes into the 0-0 draw with the Red Devils and was subsequently withdrawn from the England squad for the October international break. As it turns out, the timing of the injury couldn’t have been better as Konsa can now focus on his recovery.

The Telegraph reports the 26-year-old has escaped any serious injury and should be available for selection in one or two weeks’ time. A scan confirmed Konsa did damage his hamstring against United but it was only a minor issue and one he’ll be able to manage over the next fortnight.

This news comes as a huge boost to Villa as Konsa is one of the first names on the team sheet, no matter the competition. Without doubt one of Unai Emery’s favourite defenders at the club, Konsa is arguably best at centre-half but is also more than comfortable filling in at right-back.

Now that Matty Cash has returned from his own hamstring issue, Konsa missing one match wouldn’t be catastrophic. There’s certainly a race against time for Villa’s number four to make it back to full fitness for the trip to Fulham on October 19, but there’s hope.

Three days after the clash at Craven Cottage, Villa play host to Bologna in the UEFA Champions League. There are then three fixtures in the space of a dozen days against AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Club Brugge.
