Aston Villa have sacked head coach Steven Gerrard following the team’s 3-0 loss to Fulham on Thursday evening (20 October).
Gerrard was relieved of his duties shortly after his side’s heavy defeat in West London. He leaves with Villa in 17th place in the Premier League table with 11 games played. Villa have won just two games all season and the former Rangers boss has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks following the poor run of form.

Following the game, the former Liverpool and England midfielder said in his post-match press conference on Amazon Prime that he wouldn’t quit Villa Park. He said: “We’ll see what happens, I understand the situation that we’re in. I’m a fighter, I’ll never, ever quit anything, certainly when it comes down to football or anything in life. We’ll see what happens.”
Shortly after Gerrard was sacked by the West Midlands club and Villa’s owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens will now begin their search for a new manager.
Announcing the news, an Aston Villa club spokesman, said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”
