Aston Villa have endured a difficult start of the season despite enjoying a solid summer of transfer business.

There was plenty of optimism coming into this season following the signings of the likes of Diego Carlos, Boubacar Kamara, Philippe Coutinho and others.

But so far, it has been a disappointing start, with Villa picking up just three points from three games, and to make matters worse, they now face a very difficult run of games.

A win in the Carabao Cup earlier this week will lift the spirits, but Villa need to improve in the Premier League.

And they could yet improve further on the pitch with new signings ahead of the deadline.

With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Villa Park.

Szalai interest

Villa are said to be interested in a move for Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai ahead of the deadline.

The Lions need a centre-back within the next week to cover for the absence of Diego Carlos, who has been ruled out for the season.

Szalai has emerged as a possible option, with Birmingham Live citing a report that claims Villa are ‘serious’ potential buyers.

It’s claimed Villa have offered £14million in a bid to land Szalai as the clock ticks towards the deadline.

It will be interesting to see how Fenerbahce respond to the reported offer.

Archer talks

Burnley are said to have entered talks over a loan deal to sign Villa striker Cameron Archer.

Archer enjoyed a fine loan stint with Preston North End last season, scoring seven times in 20 Championship appearances.

And he is likely to head out on loan again in a bid to secure regular first team football.

According to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Vincent Kompany-led Burnley are now in talks with Villa in a bid to land the promising frontman for the season.
