Villa are in the market for a new centre half after Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles’ tendon

Aston Villa have reportedly made an enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga.

According to Sportitalia (via Inside Futbol) Villa are interested in signing the English centre-half, with Nottingham Forest and AC Milan also keen.

Tanganga has not played for Spurs this season and the club are reportedly looking to sell before the end of the summer transfer market. The Athletic is reporting that Forest are looking to secure a permanent deal for Tanganga but Spurs have been holding out for a fee of around €20million (£16.8million).

According to the report, Bournemouth have also taken an interest in the defender. Steven Gerrard is in the market for a new centre half after Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles’ tendon during Saturday’s (13 August) 2-1 win over Everton.

Carlos, who joined Villa from Sevilla in June on a four year deal, will now require surgery and will then begin his rehabilitation programme. Villa’s new signing is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
