Villa could be in the lead in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
The midfielder has attracted plenty of attention after his excellent season with the Seagulls, who were rather excellent overall.
And according to journalist Dean Jones, it could be Villa who are leading the race with Gerrard keen to land a deep-lying midfielder this summer.
“They’ll have massive competition to sign Bissouma and it seems that he’s probably further along in negotiations with other clubs,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“Somebody like Aston Villa might already be in the lead with trying to get him.”
