Meanwhile, a deal has also been struck to land defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla, making it an almost perfect summer for Villa so far.

It has been an aggressive start to the window from Gerrard, but he will want even more signings in a bid to make sure Villa don’t have another difficult start to the season.

McGinn interest

Tottenham are said to be eyeing a move for Villa midfielder John McGinn.

Antonio Conte is said to be eyeing a midfielder this summer, and three players are on his shortlist as we head towards the summer window.

According to the Daily Mail, McGinn is on that shortlist, as well as Christian Eriksen and James Ward-Prowse.

Villa have been able to see off interest from Manchester United in the past, but it seems they will now have to keep Spurs at bay.

Bissouma latest

Villa could be in the lead in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.

The midfielder has attracted plenty of attention after his excellent season with the Seagulls, who were rather excellent overall.

And according to journalist Dean Jones, it could be Villa who are leading the race with Gerrard keen to land a deep-lying midfielder this summer.

“They’ll have massive competition to sign Bissouma and it seems that he’s probably further along in negotiations with other clubs,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

“Somebody like Aston Villa might already be in the lead with trying to get him.”
