According to fellow NationalWorld website Yorkshire Post, Huddersfield Town are ‘running the rule’ over DJ Campton-Sturridge, and has already turned out for his new side.

The 22-year-old appeared in the Terriers’ Central League Cup fixture, and scored twice in a 3-3 draw against the League Two outfit. Huddersfield have a B team rather than an under-21 set-up, and so they do not play in the Professional Development League like other teams at their level.

His departure was confirmed after he was not listed in Villa’s Premier League retained list in the summer, and left the Midlands without making an appearance for the senior team.

Sturridge appeared twice for the Villains in the EFL Trophy and featured a total of 10 times for their under-21 team. He had some success with the under-18s and got two goals and an assist in seven games for the academy outfit.

News of Sinclair’s trial at Huddersfield comes after another one of the summer departures trialled at Bristol City. Caleb Chukwuemeka featured for Bristol City’s under-21’s last month but it was ‘unlikely’ that he would be offered a contract at Ashton Gate, and has since not appeared for them.

The 21-year-old had been at Villa for two years and made three senior appearances for the first-team. He was loaned out to Livington in the season that he joined and then completed the 2022/23 season on loan at Crawley Town in League Two.

The current Villa Under-21’s side meanwhile suffered a 4-2 defeat to Charlton Athletic in the EFL Trophy last week. Kobei Moore and Todd Alcock were on target Inigo Idiakez’s side, but it wasn’t enough to get a win in South London. Villa’s Premier League 2 campaign resumes on Monday, October 30. Villa are currently 16th out of the 26 teams in the Premier League 2 structure,
