The bookies don’t see Steven Gerrard remaining in charge at Villa Park for much longer.

Steven Gerrard has been tipped to become one of the next managers to be sacked in the Premier League following Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Monday.

The former Liverpool midfielder has been in charge of the Villans since November 2021, and has overseen 38 games in all competitions, winning 13, drawing eight and losing on 17 occasions.

Gerrard left Rangers, where he won the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership, to take the role at Villa Park, but things haven’t been going swimmingly for him since his arrival in the West Midlands.

Despite a four-game unbeaten run, which includes a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Villa sit 16th in the Premier League table, winning two of their opening nine games, leading to pressure building on Gerrard.

Bruno Lage has already been dismissed by Wolverhampton Wanderers after their poor start to the campaign, so it’s no surprise the bookies have compiled a list of other top flight managers set to follow him through the exit door.

Who is favourite to be sacked next?

As per SkyBet, Gerrard is favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job this season and is priced at 4/5.

Under fire Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl can be backed at 6/4, while Leicester City’s Brendon Rodgers is at 3/1, with the club bottom of the table after their opening nine league games.

Next is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp (16/1) after their poor start to the season and then Forest’s Steve Cooper, who recently signed a new contract extension with the newly-promoted club.

Other names being mentioned include Antonio Conte (Tottenham Hotspur), David Moyes (West Ham United), Jesse Marsch (Leeds United) and Erik ten Hag (Manchester United).

Can Gerrard turn things around?

Villa have a tough set of fixtures coming up before the Premier League breaks for the World Cup in November, including a trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea and two clashes with Manchester United, one in the league (November 6) and four days later in the League Cup.

The 42-year-old, despite significant backing in the summer, could be dismissed if he doesn’t improve Villa’s performances on the pitch. They have scored the joint-second lowest number of goals in the competition so far - something that needs to change at the earliest opportunity.

If Gerrard fails to pick up wins in Villa’s next few league games and the club drop into the relegation zone, it’s likely the club’s hierarchy will take the necessary actions to better results.
