Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was reportedly spotted in the crowd at the Stade Vélodrome to watch Marseille’s 3-2 win over Nates on Wednesday night (20 April).

As reported by RMC Sport (via Sport Witness) it’s believed Gerrard made the trip to France to watch Marseille’s midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who has been linked with moves to Villa as well as Manchester United in recent months.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is out of contract at the end of this season, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Villa are interested in bringing him to Villa Park.

But there is intense competition for his signature, with Atletico Madrid and Manchester United both said to be interested.

According to The Telegraph, Atleti made a bid to sign him in January, and they could make a fresh move in the summer.

Villa look to bolster their defence

Elsewhere, the Villa boss is also eyeing a number of potential defensive additions and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool’s Joe Gomez and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter in recent months.

It has been reported both players have been in talks with Villa but are not believed to be one of the ‘big name’ defensive additions planned by Gerrard this summer.

Football Insider have suggested the Villa boss will allow Tyrone Mings leave, if he gets his way in the transfer market in the close-season.

The former Ipswich Town defender has been a key part of the Villa side since he joined the club three years ago - but his time at Villa Park could come to an end.
