Aston Villa are reportedly keen on bringing Liverpool midfielder James Milner back to Villa Park this summer.

Steven Gerrard could make a move for his former England team mate, with the veteran midfielder’s contract at Anfield expiring at the end of the season, according to a report from Fichajes.

Milner, 36, played for Villa between 2008 and 2010, making 27 appearances for the club before joining Manchester City in a deal worth around £26 million.

Milner went on to become a two-time Premier League champion and also lifted the FA Cup and Capital One Cup at the Etihad before going on to enjoy even more success following a free transfer switch to Liverpool in July 2015.

The Leeds-born midfielder has been a key player for Liverpool during the Jurgen Klopp era, helping the Reds to win the Champions League and their first Premier League title in 30 years.

Although he’s out of contract at the end of the season, Milner could still decide to extend his stay on Merseyside.

Esteemed football journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted earlier this week that Liverpool have offered Milner a one-year contract extension, and talks are now underway, as Klopp wants Milner to be part of the team next season.
