A striking new mural celebrating 150 years of Wolverhampton Wanderers has been unveiled outside Molineux, with club officials and the leader of Wolverhampton Council attending the unveiling ahead of the derby clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The nine-metre-wide and five-metre-tall artwork, situated at the entrance to the Molineux Subway, features four iconic figures from Wolves' history – Billy Wright, John Richards, Steve Bull and Raul Jimenez.

The mural was unveiled on Saturday, September 19, a day before Wolves host their Black Country rivals West Brom in a highly anticipated derby.

Among those attending the unveiling were Wolves chairman Nathan Shi, directors John Bowater and John Gough, director of football operations Matt Wild and Wolverhampton Council leader Councillor Stephen Simkins.

Commissioned by UK bookmaker Midnite, the club's principal partner and front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 season, the artwork has been created to mark Wolves' 150th anniversary.

It brings together some of the most recognisable names from different generations of the club's history, from former England captain Wright and prolific goalscorers Richards and Bull to modern-day favourite Jimenez.

The artwork was created by artist Joe Miles, who was also behind the mural of former Wolves forward Diogo Jota at the Leaping Wolf pub in Wolverhampton.

Joe said he had been overwhelmed by the positive response from supporters as he worked on his latest creation.

"It's been great, and everyone has been amazing about it and the reception has been great," he said.

"I've been chatting more than I've been painting to be honest, loads of people have stopped to talk to me about it.

"I feel really lucky to have been able to paint something for the Wolves."

Wolves director John Gough praised the artwork for capturing the club's history through the different kits worn by its legendary players.

"It's excellent," he said. "It's interesting that they've got the different shirts for the different eras, right from the old gold of Billy (Wright) in my era to John and the 74' Wembley cup final, Bully in the late 80s and then right the way through to the latest strip which has gone down really well and is selling like hot cakes."

Councillor Simkins said the mural was a fitting tribute to the city's footballing heritage and highlighted the close relationship between Wolves and the council.

"It's amazing, and the bond we've got between the council and the club is unbreakable," he said.

"What's really important is it shows the great history of this city. We've all got our footballing heroes and this captures it."

Wolves chairman Nathan Shi also welcomed the new addition to the surroundings of Molineux, praising the work that had gone into the project.

"It's remarkable," he said. "We've been working with the council and our partners to show off our history and upgrade the Molineux area, and the artist has done a very good job. It's fantastic."
