Teenage boy taken to hospital with serious injuries after stabbing

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area where possible

A teenage boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing in Yardley.

Emergency services were called to Yew Tree Lane at 2.13pm following reports of a stabbing.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor accompanied by a critical care paramedic, and the Trust's Critical Care Car attended the scene.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing on Yew Tree Lane at 2.13pm.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a teenage male. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital."

The incident has led to the closure of Yew Tree Lane at its junction with Church Road, with police at the scene.

West Midlands Roads confirmed the closure, which has also caused disruption to bus services in the area.

The 17 and 17A services have been diverted via Barrows Lane before returning to Church Road.

A bus service update said: "Due to an emergency service-led incident around the Yew Tree, services 17 and 17A are on diversion via Barrows Lane and back to Church Road.

"We apologise for any disruption to your journey."

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area where possible, while bus passengers should allow extra time for their journeys.

West Midlands Police have been approached for comment.
