Morrisons Edgbaston to reopen next week after external fire damage

An Edgbaston supermarket will stay closed until next week after a fire tore through its roof.
Morrisons on Hagley Road has been shut since the blaze on Saturday, September 3.

Hide AdAn investigation concluded it had started ‘accidentally’ and the store will reopen on Tuesday, following repairs.


A Morrisons spokesperson told BirminghamWorld: “There was an external fire at our Edgbaston store in the early hours of Sunday morning but thankfully no one was hurt.
“The store will be closed for the remainder of this week while we carry out repairs and will reopen on Tuesday, September 13.”
More than 60 firefighters and eight crews from Ladywood, Highgate, West Bromwich, Woodgate Valley, Billesley, Hay Mills and Sethwick battled the blaze.

Hide AdThe fire also led to travel disruption. Parts of Hagley Road were cordoned off and tram services to the area were temporarily suspended.
