Potentially life-saving Bleed Kits are set to be introduced into a number of clubs in Birmingham following the death of Cody Fisher on Boxing Day 2022.
Twenty-three year-old non-league player and sports coach Cody was stabbed on the dancefloor of the Crane, in Digbeth, while enjoying a night out with pals.

Emergency services rushed to the popular nightspot at 11.45pm but despite desperate attempts to save Cody, he died 30 minutes later. On Wednesday, January 4, Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court charged with murder and affray. They will stand trial for his death this summer.
Cody’s shocking death has further highlighted the issue of knife crime in Birmingham and the wider region.

Following his death, it’s been annouced that Bleed Kits are being installed at several nightclubs and venues in Birmingham.
The bleed control kits include equipment such as tourniquets, bandages and gels which could prevent people from bleeding to death while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
The Mill, Birmingham Mama Rouxs, The Mockingbird Cinema, The Rainbow, Birmingham Luna Springs and Zumhof Biergarten were all given the lifesaving equipment yesterday (10 January).

The kits were donated by The Daniel Baird Foundation, a charity started by Lynne Baird after her son Daniel was murdered with a knife in Digbeth in July 2017.
Daniel was 26 when he was fatally stabbed in the heart at the Forge Tavern, in Digbeth. He had been out celebrating a new job with friends before he bled to death in minutes.

Since he died, Mrs Baird has campaigned to prevent knife-related killings through the Daniel Baird Foundation. The mum-of-eight founded the Control The Bleed: Save a Life campaign which provides bleed kits designed to treat wounds quickly and effectively.
A total of 227 bleed-control kits have been placed at different locations in the West Midlands, including the Bullring in the city centre, in response to rising violent crime and mounting fears of escalating levels of gang warfare.
The kits, which Lynne says have ‘saved many lives so far’, will now be available in the nightclubs mentioned.

What has Lynne and the police said about the kits?
Lynne said: “With the help of our supporters, and West Midlands Police, fire and ambulance we have donated 15 kits to Digbeth. We’re hoping to place more in future through our fundraising plans.”
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, said: “These lifesaving kits are a simple but clever idea, that provide users with the equipment and instructions to save a life.
“Having these kits at venues across the West Midlands can save lives. No-one should ever have to lose a loved one to knife crime.

“When someone is stabbed, getting treatment to stop the bleed as quickly as possible is essential. These kits help to control the bleed and buy time for an ambulance and expert medical help to arrive.”
