Yes, the Birmingham accent may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s certainly one of the most distinctive dialects in the UK, and Brummies are proud of their defining accent. But are there certain areas of Birmingham where residents have an accent that is perceived to sound ‘posher’ than others - although you may be surprised by some of the neighbourhoods suggested.
We asked readers for their thoughts on the areas in and around the city where you are most likely to hear one. We also spoke to residents in Birmingham city centre on the subject which you can see in the video above.

9. Great Barr
Great Barr, along with Perry Barr, received over £700 million of community investment for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was also named by one reader as an area of the city where you’re likely to hear a posh accent | West Midlands Police

It’s not best known for its posh residents, but this area, which is by Northfield, was also mentioned as an area of the city where you could hear a posher accent. | google
