The latest injury news ahead of Nottingham Forest vs Wolves - including updates on Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, Daniel Podence and Diego Costa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the road once again on Wednesday evening as they take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup Quarter Final. Wolves head into the game full of confidence after they showed up Liverpool with a positive showing in the FA Cup Third Round at the weekend.

Julen Lopetegui’s side were unfortunate not to win at Anfield on Saturday as a VAR mishap ultimately cost them victory. Supporters and pundits alike were furious when Toti Gomes’ late goal was ruled out for offside, especially when it became apparent that there was no conclusive footage available to allow for an overturned decision.

The Wanderers are still not happy with that particular call but they will have to move on sharpish as another challenge awaits in a different competition. Wednesday’s opposition Forest have been a real mixed bag this campaign, as they have struggled to adjust to over a dozen new faces through the door in Nottingham.

Steve Cooper’s side have added lots of squad depth but so much so that it has fallen out of their favour. Plenty of big-money signings have been wasting away on the sidelines as Forest have been unable to get them to gel just yet. The former European Cup winners are sitting narrowly above the Premier League relegation zone as it stands, three points above Wolves.

Both teams have huge matches to contend with in the English top tier on the weekend but for now the focus is on the Carabao Cup. With the clash fast approaching, here is a look at how both Forest and Wolves are looking on the injury news front. See below.

What is the injury news ahead of Nottingham Forest vs Wolves?

Wanderers have four doubts ahead of the game, Lopetegui has confirmed. Wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri was taken off with a knock in the second half against Liverpool, whereas Diego Costa, Joao Moutinho and Daniel Podence all missed out on the trip to Anfield. They all remain doubtful.

Meanwhile, long-term absentees Sasa Kalajdzic (knee), Pedro Neto (ankle), Chiquinho (also knee) and Boubacar Traore (unknown) remain sidelined meaning Lopetegui has plenty of issues to address, particularly in midfield. The manager confirmed there were no other fresh concerns.

Forest are also struggling - if anything more so - as Steve Cooper confirmed ex-Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White has suffered a recurrence of a calf problem and will not be available. Taiwo Anoniyi (groin) is expected to miss out alongside Omar Richards (broken leg), Giulian Biancone (ACL), Jesse Lingard (thigh), Moussa Niakhate and Cheikhou Kouyate (both hamstring).

Former Liverpool defender Neco Williams took a blow to the nose against Blackpool and it is unclear whether he is ready to play. “It’s not been a great time on the medical front,” Cooper told Nottinghamshire Live. “We’re not one for excuses, though. We’re looking for positivity and good solutions. Whatever players are available will do their best,” Cooper said.

Ruled out: Gibbs-White, Richards, Biancone, Niakhate, Kouyate, Lingard (NFO); Kalajdzic, Neto, Chiquinho, Traore (WOL).

Doubts: Williams (NFO); Ait-Nouri, Costa, Moutinho, Podence (WOL).
