Health Awareness Day brings vital services to Balsall Health
Residents visited a community event in Balsall Heath offering free health checks, cancer support and information about local services
More than 70 people attended a health awareness event in South Birmingham offering free checks, advice and information about community support.

The event was held at a children’s centre in Balsall Heath on Wednesday, October 14, and was organised by the Hall Green Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS) in partnership with Community Connexions, NHS Birmingham and Solihull, and NHS Black Country.
Visitors could access blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) checks, diabetes information and cancer support. Women aged 25 to 64 were also able to access cervical screening without an appointment.

Healthwatch Birmingham and Solihull and Macmillan Cancer Support also supported the event, which provided free refreshments.
Alongside the health services, attendees could find out about local activities, support groups and other services available in their communities.
Thieba Bibi, Hall Green NNS project manager, said: “Events like this are a great reminder of the importance of bringing services closer to people, creating connections and making health and wellbeing conversations more accessible to everyone.”

Hall Green NNS helps people aged 50 and over, as well as adults aged 18 to 49 living with a long-term disability, to access health and social care support.
The scheme connects residents with activities, support groups and services in their local communities, helping them maintain their health, wellbeing and independence.
It has been funded by Birmingham City Council since 2019 and has been led by GSA since February 2022.
