From the Couch to Finish Line: Pensioner runs three marathons

Aged 70, most people might be slowing down, but for Nigel Parker Balsall Common, life has just begun. The former management consultant has completed his third marathon, a feat made all the more incredible by the fact that he was largely immobile just ten years ago.

At 60, Nigel is the first to admit he was not into fitness. Just a walk to the shop and back could leave him exhausted. But after cheering on wife Ann at a charity run through the Royal Parks in London, Nigel decided he wanted a piece of the action. Determined to create himself a fitter future, he made a conscious decision to reclaim his health, embarking on a journey that combined consistent exercise with a new focus on his nutrition.

"None of this would have been possible if I hadn't looked at my nutrition really carefully and decided to make a big change," Nigel says. With the help of natural supplements, which Ann has researched for many years, Nigel started getting active again.

Nigel's wife Ann, 65, is a longevity expert who supports people in regaining control of their health. She couldn’t be more proud of her husband. “Nigel is my best customer!” she laughs. “He was sceptical about my Synergy supplements at first, but it is so great to see him so active now. I am really proud of all he has achieved. He ran his first marathon, the Chester Marathon, in 2021, then two years later he completed the London Marathon in just over four hours forty minutes. He clearly got the bug as he then ran the Berlin marathon a year later!”

Nigel now runs several half marathons each year and uses his newfound passion to raise money for local charities, contributing to causes that support Parkinsons research as well as MacMillan, and the Dogs Trust. He has raised thousands of pounds and has committed to keep running to raise money for years to come.

Nigel’s inspiring story is a testament to his determination and proves that it is never too late to take control of your health and make a difference!
