Birmingham-based energy supplier E (Gas and Electricity) named Which? No.1 for 2026
Birmingham-based energy supplier E (Gas and Electricity) has been named the top energy supplier for 2026 by consumer champion Which?, achieving the highest overall score in its annual energy supplier rankings. E (Gas and Electricity) operates as part of the Bayford Group, which provides energy services to customers across the UK.
The recognition follows Which?’s independent assessment of 17 energy providers, combining feedback from almost 12,000 customers with a detailed review of suppliers’ behind-the-scenes practices, including complaints handling, customer contact, switching and smart meter performance.

E (Gas and Electricity), which is headquartered in Birmingham, achieved an overall score of 79 per cent, the highest of any supplier reviewed, and has been named a Which? Recommended Provider for the second time.
In Which?’s customer survey, E received four-star ratings for customer service, ease of contacting the supplier and clarity of statements. Nearly nine in ten customers (86 per cent) said they would recommend the provider.

The supplier also achieved the highest score overall in Which?’s behind-the-scenes assessment, performing particularly strongly in complaints handling, switching performance and smart meter delivery, areas that are often critical for customers who need clear communication and responsive support.
E (Gas and Electricity) operates in line with Ofgem’s regulatory requirements, with a continued focus on transparency, fair treatment and effective customer support.
Operations Manager Leanne Etheridge for E (Gas and Electricity) said: “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised as Which?’s top energy provider for 2026. This award reflects the commitment of the team in our Birmingham office who clearly deliver clear communication, fair treatment and reliable support for customers, particularly those who may need a bit more help navigating their energy options. This isn’t about self-promotion for us, it’s about customers having their say. The Which? ranking reflects the experiences of the people who rely on us, and that’s what makes it so meaningful.”
Which?’s findings come as switching activity returns to the energy market, with customers increasingly looking beyond price alone and placing greater value on trust, service quality and how suppliers treat people when things go wrong.
