Birmingham will get a new drinking spot soon as North Taproom: Snow Hill is set to open its doors. This will be the eatery’s first outlet outside of Yorkshire having opened its doors for the first time in 1997.

In 2022, North will take their first steps outside their home county, opening their ninth venue in Birmingham, followed closely by a tenth in Manchester.

The bar will open on Friday, November 25, and will be serving varied drinks, Asian street food, and warm, friendly service adding to Birmingham’s booming hospitality industry.

Birmingham was named the ‘most exciting food destination’ in the Good Food Guide 2022. Recently, several bars from the city were named in the CAMRA guide as well.

What does North serve?

North Bar - which was opened in 1997 by John Gyngell and Christian Townsley - started an independent brewery in 2015. North’s 24 draught lines will showcase the core range from their Leeds brewery, alongside limited-edition specials and guest brews, which are served alongside an extensive and ever-changing line-up of wines, cocktails, ciders and spirits from an eclectic range of local and international producers, including an impressive low and no alcohol offering.

Two Brum-based specials will be available on the taps: a deliciously smooth, juicy and refreshing West Coast IPA brewed with Dig Brew, and a tropical, juicy, double dry hopped NEIPA created in collaboration with Attic Brew Co.

Fellow Leeds-based brand, Little Bao Boy, will be taking care of the food menu, serving up contemporary Asian street food seven days a week.

Guests can expect a short, but inventive selection of Bao, including the likes of the KFB (chicken thigh marinated in gochujang buttermilk and dredged in Little Bao Boy garlic flour mix, fried and topped with iceberg lettuce, sriracha mayo and sesame seeds), and vegan-friendly Crispy Tofu (tofu deep fried in togarashi mix, topped with cucumber, hoisin, sriracha mayo, spring onion and toasted sesame seeds). A small selection of sides will include gyoza and loaded fries, as well as occasional specials.

What are the interiors like?

Located in Unit 1, Snow Hill, just moments from Snow Hill station in the heart of the city centre, North’s newest taproom is housed in a modern glass building, creating a light and airy space. At 2,500sqft the taproom seats 100 inside, with space for an additional 30 standing guests, and an extensive covered outdoor seating area that seats a further 50.

Interiors are relaxed and inviting, featuring plywood, plants and clean lines to create an open, spacious taproom with a Scandi feel.

A large bar is surrounded by a mix of high and low seating, alongside fridges of cans to drink in or take away. All are welcome in North’s inclusive and friendly space, including children and well-behaved dogs. Tables are offered on a walk-in only basis – no bookings necessary.
