The UK’s premier rock and metal festival is back in full this year following two years away due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Download Festival is back bigger and better than ever this year, with a lineup packed with iconic acts.

Ahead of the festival, here’s what you need to know about tickets, who is set to perform, and how you can get there from Birmingham.

When is Download Festival 2022?

Download Festival 2022 takes place from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 June at Donington Park Circuit in Derby.

Who is playing at the festival?

The lineup for this year’s festival has been pieced together, and metalheads making the journey to Derby will be in for a treat.

Friday sees rock legends KISS headline the main stage, and they top the bill following performances from A Day To Remember, Skindred and Black Veil Brides.

Away from the main stage, you’ll be able to catch Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Airbourne and Electric Wizard.

Saturday sees British metal royalty headline the main stage in the form of Iron Maiden. The band are visiting Download as part of their Legacy of The Beast World tour.

Other Saturday highlights include Deftones, Shinedown and Megadeth.

Sunday sees Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro headline the main stage and they will follow on from the likes of Alestorm, Korn and Rise Against.

Can I get tickets?

Tickets for three nights and five nights camping are available through the official Download website and Ticketmaster.

Three nights camping is available for £260, with child’s tickets priced at £114.

Five nights camping tickets are £268 with a child ticket for five nights starting at £119.40.

Tickets are also still available for quiet camping and the eco section of the camp sites.

How can I get to Download Festival from Birmingham?

The festival grounds are ideally located to get to, regardless of where you are travelling from.

Birmingham is no exception, and here are some of the ways you can make the journey from Birmingham to Download Festival 2022.

Train

Shuttle bus services will operate from East Midlands Parkway and Derby train stations to the festival grounds.

Direct trains operate from Birmingham New Street to Derby with a journey time of between 35 and 45 minutes.

Car

Whether you are coming from the north, south, east or west, the festival recommends you follow road signs to Download, from the M1 motorway or from the A38 or A42.

Routes for vehicles arriving on-site will be used flexibly, depending on traffic conditions at the time.

Do not use your sat nav, or assume the route you have taken in previous years is correct, as this information might not be correct – and your journey time may take longer. Always follow the road signs where possible.

You can book a return journey with Big Green Coach, who are an official partner of the festival.

The coaches pick up and drop off in Birmingham, and tickets can be purchased through the festival website.

A drop off / pick up area is located inside the Transport Hub at Download Festival, with road signs directing to this location around the festival site.
