The Commonwealth Games are fast approaching, and one of the main questions people will be asking is how they can follow the action on TV.

This will be particularly important for those who want to tune into the Games, but who perhaps can’t get along to any of the events in person.

Ahead of the 2022 Games, here’s what we know about the best ways to follow the action, and which channel will have the rights to the coverage.

When do the 2022 Commonwealth Games get underway?

All of the action in Birmingham kicks off later this month, with the opening ceremony taking place on Thursday, 28 July.

The opening ceremony is expected to have a crowd of 30,000 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, with an estimated one billion people watching from around the world.

Will the Games be shown on TV?

The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be shown live and in full on the BBC, with more than 200 hours of comprehensive coverage set to be shown.

According to the BBC, all the drama and excitement will be broadcast across BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Three, with more live action available on the BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website and Red Button.

Will there be coverage of the Games on radio?

A selection of sports will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 5 Sports Extra.

These sports are athletics, swimming, netball, cricket and boxing.

Which websites will be providing coverage of the Games?

BBC Sport online, the UK’s biggest digital sports service, will be a 24/7 home for the Commonwealth Games through the BBC Sport website and app with extensive short form video of the best moments, live text commentaries, reports, features and results to keep audiences across all the latest stories from Birmingham 2022.

Up to eleven live sport  streams will deliver  comprehensive coverage of all the key moments to desktops, tablets, mobiles and connected TVs.

Are there any special shows planned for the Games?

Across the BBC during the Games there will be an abundance of special additional programming on BBC Breakfast, The One Show, Morning Live, CBBC, BBC Asian Network, BBC Midlands Today and more.

What do CBBC have planned for the Games?

CBBC is bringing back its ‘Gym Stars’ show back for a fourth series.

Its fourth series is back with more terrific tumbling and awesome acrobatics.

It celebrates some of the UK’s best young talent as well as featuring elite team GB gymnasts who will be representing their home nations at the Commonwealth Games.

The series will launch on BBC iPlayer and the CBBC channel in the run up to the Games.

Will there be a highlights show?

The BBC have announced that there will be a daily highlights show at the end of each day of the Commonwealth Games.

The show will be called ‘Tonight at the Games’ and will be on BBC One every evening.

JJ Chalmers and Isa Guha will bring highlights of the day’s action at the Games.
