It takes a braveheart to venture after dark into old castles to hunt for ghosts and ghouls. If that is not your jam, you could watch a scary movie instead. There is something for everyone to try in Birmingham this Halloween.

Whether you like parties or animal safaris, Birmingham has a plethora of options. Here are seven spectacularly spooky things to try out:

1) Aston Hall after dark: torchlit ghost tour

You can join a late night tour at one of the spookiest buildings in the country. You can explore the hall by torchlight if you are brave enough to give it a try. This will be a guided tour around the dimly lit mansion. Pre-booking is essential. They’ll provide you with torches.

2) Halloween Silent Movie Special: Nosferatu

Nothing says Spooky Season quite like a scary movie. Catch the famed silent movie Noseferatu on 1 November at 7:30pm in Birmingham Town Hall. If you think Dracula is scary, wait till you watch this movie. You can grab tickets for this on the B:Music website.

3) Halloween day of the dead party at Freedom Rooms

This one might be adults only since it starts at 9pm and ends at 4am on 29 October. Freedom Rooms in Deritend, Digbeth, will host the wildest spooky party with music playing all night in multiple rooms at the venue. There’s going to be R&B music by Freedom Rooms’ DJs, laser lights, and a lot more. So, come dressed in your scariest best because you never know who you’d want to haunt.

4) Spooky Spectacular at West Midlands Safari Park

From 22nd – 30th October, you can see the pumpkin-scarecrow character, ‘Patch’ or take part in a hunt by locating missing potion ingredients in the freeScratchcard Trail, or join Patch for a 20-minute magic show at the Safari Park in Spring Grove, Bewdley. There’s also a spooky VR ride to get your head around at where you will encounter ghastly ghouls, petrifying pumpkins and sinister scarecrows.

5) The Castle After Dark at Warwick Castle

Halloween is starting early this year at Warwick Castle. Festivities will kick of on 1 October with Halloween School, The Witches Tower and the return of the Haunted Hollows.

The Haunted Castle returns from 22 October with eerie mazes, scare schools, and the much-loved Dead Centre Stage, as well as host of other frightful delights.

And, he last but not the least - Castle After Dark is returning on select nights from 22 October for fearless families and scare-seekers.

6) Circus Spooktacular at Cadbury World

From Saturday 15 – Sunday 30 October, visitors will get be able to catch the spookiest show in town and be entertained by Freddo the Frog at his Circus Spooktacular stage show.

Guests will be astounded by the Great Fredeedo’s spookiest spells, howling with laughter at Fangtastic Freddo’s petrifying puns and amazed by Daredevil Freddo’s frightfully fun tricks. There’s lots more happening at Cadbury World that you and your family can take part in.

7) Halloween ghost hunt at Steelhouse Lane

Fancy yourself a ghosthunter? And, even if you don’t - this ghost hunt will be an amazing way to explore the infamous lock up - Steelhouse Lane Police Station. The place has a dark and scary history going as far back as to Victorian times. It was built to hold up to 50 of Birmingham’s hardened criminals. Fans of The Peaky Blinders would know what we mean. 8) Spooktacular series at Touchwood Solihull

The venue is running a bewitching wizards and witches trail, where little sorcerers will visit the sorting cauldron and be assigned to one of the Touchwood School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Houses: Poplar, Crescent, Jubilee, and Mill Lane, before taking on the trail.

There’s also a Zombie Disco on Saturday 22 October and Sunday 30 October as well as Uncle Doom’s performance on Thursday 27 October. You can find more information on their website.
