BANG! It was an explosive start for The Bodyguard musical as the curtains opened on the theatre version of the renowned 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner at The Alex.
Featuring some of the biggest hits of the 80s amid dramatic and romantic storyline - it’s a powerful alternative to panto that’s guaranteed to entertain everyone looking to enjoy a Christmas show in Birmingham.

Hide AdThe starring role of Rachel Marron is played by Emily Williams whose amazing vocals keep the audience captivated throughout the 2hrs and 25mins show. Emily rose to fame on Australian Idol and has since gained many ‘Favourite Austrlain Female Artist’ nominations.
Rachel’s sister, Nicki, is played by Emily Mae, who is equally as impressive in voice as the pair deliver classic hits including Greatest Love of All, How Will I Know, I’m Every Woman, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, So Emotional and I Will Always Love You.
For Kevin Costner’s role as bodyguard Frank Farmer, you will be delighted with Frank Farmer’s strong performance - and convincing American accent. Slick and strong his enigmatic presence ensures the action-packed storyline dazzles the audience.
But this show isn’t all about drama. The love triangle with Rachel, Nicki and Frank adds a loving dimension along with the cute antics of Rachel’s son Fletcher, played by Kaylen Luke the night we attended - and, of course, there’s the sibling rivalry between Rachel and Nicki.

Hide AdHowever, it’s the music that is the overall star of the show. There are a host of laugh out loud moments as the ensemble act out karaoke scenes attempting renditions of those Whitney Houston classics.
And, even better - unlike the film - the audience get to enjoy a dance along to the iconic tunes at the end. It’s the festive feelgood factor that will bring a cheer to everyone’s Christmas.
