Early team news for Wolves vs Brentford, including the latest on Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves and Pontus Jansson.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be full of confidence as they take on their next Premier League fixture, as they face Brentford at Molineux on Saturday. Another victory would take Julen Lopetegui’s side up to seven points clear of the bottom three, easing fears of relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

Wanderers have been boosted ahead of this weekend as Matheus Nunes, who limped off during the 1-0 win over Chelsea last time out, appears to have escaped a serious injury. The midfielder was in good form and scored a beautiful half-volley to claim all three points for Wolves, but then caused concern by hobbling off late on in the game.

There were good signs once fans had gone home, however, as Nunes could be seen - from the press box - walking along the side of the pitch in his training gear without any limp or discomfort. Although there has been no confirmation that he will be ready for this weekend, the assumption is he will be.

One player who definitely will not play, though, is key man Ruben Neves as he serves the second of his two-match suspension from accumulating 10 yellow cards. Jonny Otto is in a similar situation as this is his final fixture of a three-match ban from a straight red in the 4-2 defeat to Leeds United.

Boubacar Traore has been touch-and-go for a while but remains a doubt with no further update on the Malian’s fitness levels. It’s a shame as with Neves out there may have been a chance for involvement in the matchday squad. Finally, long-term absentees Sasa Kalajdzic and Chiquinho are both out until pre-season with serious knee injuries.

The Bees, meanwhile, were dealt a huge blow when captain Pontus Jansson was forced off with a hamstring problem during the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, but it gets even worse as he’s now expected to be sidelined for the rest of the campaign. Three other players - Keane Lewis-Potter, Frank Onyeka and Kristoffer Ajer - are all ruled out.

Ruled out: Neves, Jonny, Kalajdzic, Chiquinho (WOL); Jansson, Lewis-Potter, Onyeka, Ajer (BRE). Doubts: Nunes, B. Traore (WOL).
